The first signing

The very first signing was at the Chapters in Dartmouth. They'd set me up right at the front door. At first, it felt weird. Some people look away, uncomfortable, like you're trying to sell them something. Which you kind of are. Other people approach hesitantly, and then get chatty when they see Sydney's artwork. And then on from there.
The only photo I got was of the empty table at the end of my stay there. I'd signed and sold a good-sized stack, leaving just one copy in the store. To see people walking out the door with my book in a bag... strange, nerve-wracking, like I'd made a promise.
I hope those pirates keep it.

there was a heavy knock at my door this morning. a happy man handed me your book! it's beautiful kate. and i can't wait to dive into it. i just wanted to say thank you. it feels wonderful to hold your words in this form, so far from where they were created. congratulations again, all your readers will be absolutely thrilled with what they find between these pages.
So exciting!
I'm pretty sure they will.
