Talking pirates and process with haligonia.ca
My hair was totally electrified with winter static and I'd just stumbled in from a two-ton plate of pad thai and I was all breathy and felt weird but here it is, the first interview with local online news site Haligonia. Do I seem all serious? Christ. I think I do. I was trying to be proper. The outcome of that might be you falling asleep, but hey. Watch this if you're suffering from restless leg syndrome and it's keeping you up. And please excuse the part where it almost sounds like I call myself a rock star. I didn't mean to do that. I only meant that I always roll my eyes when someone describes themselves putting on shows when they were three. Cause every three-year-old does that. Even the ones ordained to become accountants.
Caution: periods of knee-jerk spirituality ahead. Visibility near zero. And then: pirates again! All is well.
Is it possible to do one of these things without crawling all over with strangeness? Please say no.
Thanks to Clare at Haligonia for great questions and such a cozy view. Next time I'll order a garden salad instead. I promise.

Ah, Ms. Inglis, you can say that this interview was all about pirates and process and other writerly things, but I have been staring at that pentagram for twenty two minutes and eight seconds now, and have a sudden and inexplicable compulsion to listen to black metal.
(No, really. A lovely interview. Worth braving any amount of black metal for, certainly.)
No, it is not possible to do one of these things without crawling all over with strangeness, I would wager. But it was good.
René, now, don't go spoiling my dastardly plans. All you saw, subliminally, were puppies and daisy fields.
And thanks, Steph. I just felt on looking at it afterwards that I was so SERIOUS. And sure of myself. Which is a bald-faced lie. Which I think is where the strangeness comes from. :)
i absolutely loathe having the camera pointed at my face... i squirm like a 3-year old in a snow suit with a full bladder every time. trust me, you're not the only one. having said that, you kicked 37 kinds of ass in that interview (we always see ourselves worse than other people see us). congrats!
Don't be so hard on yourself! It is very hard to experience ourselves in an interview about ourselves (I would imagine). Kind of like a job interview or blind date.... You were intelligent and authentic.
i'm laughing at rene's pentagram comment ...
i enjoyed this interview kate! i can't imagine how strange it must be do be in the hot seat. i think you did well. i especially loved how you described the writing process and also how you blog (crafting each post, quality not quanitity) the support of your family from a young age.
and river is smitten with you kate. he studies the cover of your book, all the pirates, but he's not ready to hear the story aloud, but seeing you, putting your face to the book's cover just about rocked his world.
thank you for sharing.
Kate, this was wonderful! As a new reader to your blog, it was so great to hear the background -- and so exciting to learn that Missy is getting her own story! I wish you all the luck in the world with your writing.
That was super articulate. I think I was subconsciously banking on you being awkward and "um....um" without your laptop and your cabin. Not so. Also, I don't think I realized Dread Crew pretty much grew out of your blog. It was interesting to hear you talk about how the blog is not about pirates and the book is not about death. I've wondered how much that fact colors how your bloggers receive the book.
