I’ve got a bit of a lot of my mind. It’s okay. If you never let in the worthwhile a-lot—if you keep shrinking from it—nothing good, new, or worthwhile will ever take shape. Let in the discontent. Let in the odd ten-mile stare of a day. The way it feels is courage stirring up the heat it needs.

The conversation with a mentor that rang a bell. On a freelance life and working from home @apartmenttherapy — click the link in their bio and scroll down to ‘tours’ to read the feature! #writerstudio #workingfromhome #freelancelife
This was fun! Gave @apartmenttherapy a tour of my crowsnest studio and a glimpse of the rest of our sea captain’s house. I’m in love with this graphic they did—the doves! 😊 To see the feature, go to apartmenttherapy.com and scroll down to ‘tours’. Yay! #writerstudio #homeoffice
The light beams in this time of day and they snuggle up and snooze and enjoy sun-baths. #doves
Every now and then we can see across the water that Penguin is out on the deck of the lodge, lumbering back and forth, letting out a resonant, full-bass WOOF to the wind. We went over today to say hello and offer up a few belly rubs. He stayed with us for a few weeks a while back, and Ben was smitten. His own personal bear, the King of Riverport. Newfoundland dogs give the best hugs. They knock you down first, though. 😍
*What to do with the barn?* Is the question of the spring. At the least, it needs scraping and painting, new doors and a few shingles, braced floor joists. But to what end? Inside, it’s three odd floors. No stairs. Do we gut it, reconstruct one second floor, whitewash it, add awning windows overlooking the water? I can imagine a wall of built-in daybeds and a workshop space. A loft upstairs with a king-size sleeping platform. Views and light. A ‘shed 2.0’ bunkie to sleep 8-10, summer camp-inspired.... But, there’s always the humming and hahhing about the $$$$. Are we getting carried away? What’s the tipping point? We could just clean it up. Reconcile ourselves to letting it just be what it is—a barn— and repair what’s sagging, make it look decent on the outside. The lower back section, unused space except for a canoe and a long ladder, would be a perfect chicken coop. What can we afford? What can we ask of our carpenter, who knows by now to entertain my crazy ideas but who can only tolerate so much fuss over a shed? Spring, man. Spring gets into your brain.
Everything is still shades of brown but the neighbourhood salt marsh is waking up. The herons are out and looking very proud, standing tall and still in the breeze. #lunenburgcounty #novascotia
